On April 12, 2023, the Ho Chi Minh City University of Law, with the support of the international law firm Nishimura & Asahi, successfully organized an international conference on the topic “Alternative Dispute Resolution Methods in the Development of Digital Technology.” The conference featured presentations from academics, experts, and legal practitioners from institutions and firms around the world.
At the conference, two legal counsels from Lawrel Law Firm, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoa and Ms. Ngo Nguyen Thao Vy, LL.M., presented their papers titled, respectively, “Vietnamese Arbitration Law facing with the development of digital technology” and “AI Implementation in ODR: A game-changer or a troublemaker for data protection.”
In the digital era, technology has permeated every corner of life, including the legal field. The COVID-19 pandemic, in particular, accelerated the growth of online dispute resolution (ODR) methods like never before. This development necessitates corresponding changes in legal texts and regulations to adapt. In her paper, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoa analyzed the legal issues in online arbitration that Vietnam needs to address. Meanwhile, Ms. Ngo Nguyen Thao Vy explored another facet of ODR: the application of AI and the crucial issue of information security.
