As part of Vietnam Arbitration and Mediation Week 2023 (VAW 2023), Ms. Ngo Nguyen Thao Vy, LL.M. – a Legal Counsel at Lawrel LLC Law Firm – was honored to be invited as a speaker at the opening event.
VAW 2023 is a large-scale event series, co-organized by the Vietnam International Arbitration Centre (VIAC) and the Vietnam Business Lawyers Club (VBLC). “The role of Article 79 CISG for consistency promotion regarding force majeure and hardship in the post-COVID-19 era.”
The presentation provided an in-depth analysis of the legal lessons learned from the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly concerning disputes over force majeure and exemption from liability in international trade. Through an international legal perspective, Ms. Thao Vy clarified the role of Article 79 of the Vienna Convention (CISG) in promoting consistency when dealing with issues of force majeure and hardship in international commercial contracts in the post-pandemic era.
The presentation not only offered academic value but also suggested many practical solutions to help import-export businesses in Vietnam be more proactive in drafting contracts and managing legal risks when participating in the international market.
